Are you passionate about food, are customer-oriented and love working with a team? As supervisor for our Meat and Fish department in our family-owned food market in Palo Alto, you will manage the meat, fish and poultry needs, ensuring high-quality products for our customers.
What you'll do: Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operation of the department and ensure all standards are followed.
Consistently provide professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow colleagues
Supervise a small team within the department; Assist leadership, as needed, to select, train, develop, mentor, motivate and counsel team members to sustain a high-performance team
Manage food cost, waste and employee hours and schedules
Demonstrates a solid foundation in protein-cooking knowledge. Consults guests on selecting and cooking all types of meat, including fish, poultry, pork, lamb, and beef.
Accurately weigh, price and wrap customer selections as well as answering customer questions and making recommendations
Complete daily meat, fish & poultry market lists based on hotel volume
Receive, unload and put away product delivery. Cut and prepare meat and seafood products for food display, following organic standards procedures
Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment
Maintain a fresh and attractive product display by checking codes and rotating products
Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features and promotions
Ensure correct and helpful signage and pricing in department
Ensure a safe and sanitary department, following sanitation and safety procedures
Set-up and/or breakdown personal workstation including: knives, cutting boards, mise en place, equipment, linens (apron, shirt, towels), etc.
Support the team as a meat, fish and poultry expert - assisting in training and sharing butchery knowledge and skills.
Works in conjunction with Department Head/Buyer/DSS to complete daily tasks, organize side work and daily project lists.
Immediately report all life safety and fire hazards, violations of company policy, and all accidents and injuries to store leadership

Who you are: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Have a passion for food and a love for the craft of butchery.
Proven skill and leadership qualities, including expertise in meat, fish and poultry product and department practices and procedures.
High energy, enthusiastic and a passion for working with customers.
Strong management skills, with strong attention to detail dealing with meat, fish and poultry products, maintaining operations across costs, safety and guiding the work of others
Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and can manage your time and effort effectively
Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness and signage and labeling for accurate pricing.
Stand and walk for extended periods of time up to 4 hours, without a break.
Able to bend and stoop to grasp objects, lift loads, push and pull carts and climb ladders. Must be able to consistently bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat during the course of a work shift.
Able to lift and carry reasonable loads as part of performing duties: Up to 10 pounds regularly, 11-25 pounds intermittently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to consistently apply repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing and pulling and fine manipulation of products.
Proven proficiency in the proper use of a dumpster, baler, knives and related equipment
Willing and able to work in environment with some extremes, including cold, outdoors, noise, exposure to fish and shellfish as well as cleaning or other commercial chemicals, cooking oils, grease, and dust.
Able to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
Able to positively receive constructive feedback related to job performance

At least 5 years of meat and fish prep and selling experience
