PRODUCE manager

As the produce manager in our new family-owned and operated market in Palo Alto, you will be responsible for the success of the most prominent and important department in the store. You will be responsible to ensure our produce department offers the highest quality fresh produce and an amazing customer experience. You will also be responsible for building and maintaining a high-performing team, including training, motivating and managing the produce team day-to-day. You will also be responsible for the overall operation of the produce department, including training and working alongside your team and ensuring proper presentation, display and production of fresh produce in the department.
What you'll do: Responsibilities
Ensure overall quality, effective merchandising, overall cleanliness and organization of the produce department
Manage produce team day-to-day, including quality control, hiring, training, managing and addressing employee relations to ensure a happy and productive team
Manage inventory to ensure proper storage, rotation and minimizing waste
Manage labor, including writing weekly schedule, to ensure proper coverage while managing overall labor costs
Perform general cleaning, organization and sanitizing in the work area
Ensure team adheres to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.
Who you are: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
At least 18 years of age with 1-3 years of experience working in a grocery retail setting with management experience in produce
Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures
Strong work ethic and integrity. Able to work flexible schedule that changes; including night, weekends, and holidays
Can manage time and effort to work efficiently
Good communication skills and ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow team members and customers
Friendly, with a positive attitude and eagerness to interact with customers
Be able to stand, walk, bend, climb throughout the entire work day and be able to lift,, stack and maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs., from 4β to 72β, for a distance up 3 feet for between 10-50 hours without mechanical assistance.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets a distance up to 20 feet, requiring a force of up to 85 pounds for up to 5 hours.
Ability to walk up to 5 miles within an 8 hour shift.
Acquire and maintain a Food Handlers permit
